Abstract

The consumption of agroecological food involves the idea of food consumption, as well as of a chain of distribution of values, ideals, power and solutions for a more sustainable future. This qualitative, exploratory study aims to provide an overview of the consumption of organic food and agroecology in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The consumption of organic products was analyzed based on the culture of consumption in asolidarity economy enterprise for agroecological products. The results indicate that the interviewees reject the term organic. For them, organic products signifya label, that is, an industry. This stands in stark contrast with the principles of agroecology, of small-scale production and its producers, who are mainly concerned with the land, health and respect for people and nature.
